The Calm Before the 6 Days Storm
We're all shrimping around right now.
This has been a weird week. With so many people bracing for today’s loss of SNAP benefits, it feels off-putting to crow about good stuff. In addition, I’ve been dealing with some pain issues that will hopefully be resolved this week. And some depression issues. Basically, for the past few weeks, I’ve been following the lead of my spirit guide, Woody:
I’ve been sleeping a lot. Then not sleeping in the middle of the night, which is fine with me because that’s a great time to snuggle with Woody and read in peace.
Around 3 a.m. this morning, I shaved $133 off my car rental for next week’s Monterey trip with some clever coupon usage. And I don’t even have my travel agent tools yet!
Speaking of …
My goal is to have 6 Days Travels open for business in time for Small Business Saturday (November 29th). I’m waiting until I return from my trip to get rolling, even though I am SO ready to get to work. It’s taking a lot of effort not to get ahead of myself. I want to be ready to help folks with last-minute holiday travels, and gifting travels. And I’m sure I will be.
I am going to jump ahead on this aspect, though: there will be perks available for my Substack subscribers! Whether you paid in May when I started, or you jump in later, I want to give some extra support to the travelers who’ve helped support me through my unemployment, and who continue to support my writing, which remains career priority number one. I have some ideas on what the available perks will be (they will be services that enhance your travel, not stuff you don’t need), but again … I’m not at the point to start putting names and prices on those things just yet. Soon!
Also soon: California! I’m so ready to get on a plane in the wee hours next Friday! And yeah, it feels really tone-deaf to say that. Every trip I take not only improves my life, but now each trip will also make me a better travel advisor. And that means I’ll have more income to donate to places like the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank and food banks in the places I visit.
Anyway … no real travel stories today. Just this bit of housekeeping as I figure out how to merge my new vocation into my life. And rest up for what’s ahead.
