I've also interviewed Wanda Jackson! In 2017 for a local free weekly paper The Tulsa Voice (RIP) and she is a lovely human being.
Also Patti Smith books are great travel reading. I read Just Kids on a solo trip to Portland and loved it. My takeaway from that book was that everyone always thinks they just missed the best time ever, not realizing that they are having the best time right then.
Was your Wanda interview for her book release? I was at Cain’s for her book release event, since it was during my first stint in the Woody archives. Mine was on 2010 (‘11?) for the album Jack White produced for her. She is the absolute sweetest! My interview was also for the local free weekly. RIP Riverfront Times, too.
Your assessment of “Just Kids” is spot on. It’s one of my favorite books.
It absolutely was! I read her book to prepare for the interview. I was at that Cain's show as well and managed to get backstage for a quick photo.
Ms. Pussycat sounds so familiar but my damn memory is a fickle mistress and I can't recall seeing a specific show of hers. Quintron is legendary in the diy punk/indie scene of the early aughts. So many one man bands back then. Har Mar Superstar, Adam and his package, The Show is the Rainbow...
I saw that they are touring this summer and I want to bring them to Tulsa! The more weird shit the better IMO.
Sweet as cotton candy is spot on—this post was a damn delight! 🩷

What a great trip to a great place!
