The excitement for my next trip started today. In a little over two weeks I’m road tripping 1,100+ miles to the Solid Sound Festival for … I’m not sure! I have a press pass and I’m excitedly awaiting my assignment from my editor, and getting the details of what I can do with my credentials.
How I’m going to do it is also on my mind. I have a big battery of neurological testing scheduled, but not until mid-July. I’m doing the best with what I have to work with. Getting a multitude of cortisone shots in the next two weeks. Resting. Trying to not push myself too hard.
This morning I decided that, instead of making the road trip to Massachusetts in two days, I’m going to spread it over three days. Otherwise I’ll be behind the wheel for at least seven hours a day. That’s a lot with this migraine shit. It also doesn’t leave me any time to do stuff. But now I’m spending a night in Dayton, Ohio, where I’m going to see my friends Sue and Greg that I met at Elizabeth’s in New Orleans last year. This makes me very happy.
My second night I’m staying in a rehabbed old motel in Niagara Falls, and you know I’m thrilled about this! Sometime I’ll tell you the story about going to Niagara Falls with my parents when I was 17. I’ve already told it once today.
July brings another three-city Oklahoma jaunt for Woody Poets, which just might be my favorite weekend of the year.
And! Fall travels are falling into place. New Orleans in November for more Afghan Whigs? Well, I need to get some cane syrup and pecans for Thanksgiving pies anyway … And get some more work done on the world’s dumbest tramp stamp…
I read an article today about leeches being used to treat vestibular migraines. If that’s what it takes to get the most out of these trips? Leech me up, Doc!
