A Playlist for Dark Autumn Drives
And some ranting about streaming services
Hey Big Spenders! I’ve put together another driving/layover/anytime playlist for you that I hope captures some of the mood of the late autumn days. I hope you enjoy it!
Some good/bad news, depending on your perspective: I’m no longer offering my playlists through Spotify. I was a beta tester in the earliest days of the service, and it pains me to see what it’s become: its embrace of AI, advertising to recruit people to work with ICE, and a funding source for drone-assisted weapons. Never mind the abysmal rates they pay musicians for their money. People love to complain about Taylor Swift being a billionaire (me included—as Billie said this week, “Give it away, Shorties”). Swift’s fortune is nothing compared to Spotify’s outgoing CEO.
So. For the time being, it’s Apple Music. Although I’m extremely miffed at Apple’s CEO contributing to the building of the ridiculous presidential “ballroom.”
Can we just go back to mixtapes, already?
